The federal government was focusing on Rs. 28,000 crore in the purchase of 2G spectrum within the GSM band. Videocon and Idea won spectrum in seven circles while Telenor got spectrum in four circles. Airtel and Vodafone won spectrum in a single circle each.
No five companies in fray bid for any pan-India spectrum that the reserve cost was set at Rs. 14,000 crore for five Mhz of airwaves.
The scant curiosity about the 2G auction was credited to high base cost.
The federal government had placed on auction a considerable area of the spectrum which was free of Top Court in Feb this season rescheduling 122 mobile permits released through the then Telecom minister A Raja to nine telecom gamers in 2008.
